Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Sunday sent a Demi-Official Letter (DO) to several government secretaries to form a separate pay scale for public university teachers.

The minister sent the letter following a demand of the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association (FBUTA) in this connection.

The secretaries addressed in the letter include President’s Office Secretary, Principal Secretary of Prime Minister's Office, Cabinet Secretary, Public Administration Secretary and Finance Secretary.

Earlier on June 15, the FBUTA leaders met the Education Minister at the Secretariat and placed their demand for forming a separate pay scale for public university teachers under the proposed 8th national pay scale.

The teachers also demanded the government set up appropriate grades for professors on ‘Warrant of Precedence’.
