Former Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmaker Syeda Asifa Ashrafi Papiya was sent to jail by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Tuesday after denying her bail in nine arson attack cases filed during BNP led 20-party countrywide nonstop blockade.
Three Metropolitan Magistrates of Dhaka passed the orders separately after rejecting her bail prayers as she surrendered before the CMM court on Tuesday afternoon and sought bail in the cases of three separate police stations respectively.
Metropolitan Magistrates-Maruf Hossain, Mahbubur Rahman and Mostafizur Rahman passed the order separately after a long hearing. Earlier on May 25, Papiya secured anticipatory bail from the High Court for four weeks and it directed her to appear before the lower court on completion of the bail period. Of the nine cases, five were filed with Paltan, one with Lalbagh and three with Mirpur police stations.
