Muggers have made off with 150 bhoris of gold after shooting a businessman in Old Dhaka, police say.
Gouranga Ghosh, 50, has been admitted to Mitford hospital.
Thursday night’s incident took place at Tantibazar near Ghosh’s shop, police’s Kotwali Zone Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Ahaduzzaman Mia said.
Muggers attacked him as he was leaving his shop and snatched a bag containing about 150 bhoris of gold, his son Liton Ghosh has told police.
Mia said they had arrested one ‘Ashif’ with a handgun from the scene.
Gouranga Ghosh told bdnews24.com that five youths tried to take the bag from him.
“They shot me in the left leg during the struggle,” he said.
The muggers had also exploded several handmade bombs before making off, he added.
Locals caught one of the muggers, Ghosh said.
Doctors at the hospital said Ghosh had been shot below his knee and his condition was not serious.
