Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal on Friday formed a human chain in the city protesting recent incidents of sexual harassment and repression on women.
Addressing the programme arranged in front of the Jatiya Press Club, BNP spokesman Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon blamed absence of the rule of law for frequent incidents of rape and repression on women.
"The women are subjected to frequent rape and repression as there's no rule of law in the country. The government, elected by people, only can ensure the rule of law in the country," he said.
The BNP leader said it is the responsibility of the state to ensure security to the women. "The government in no way can overlook its responsibility in this regard."
Mahila Dal president Nuri Ara Safa presided over the function, while its leaders Rabeya Siraj, Advocate Bilkis Jahan Shirin, Newaz Halima, Bilkis Islam and Rashida Begum Hira, among others, addressed the meeting. ?UNB
