Speakers at a programme on Wednesday paid rich tributes to slain labour leader Ahsan Ullah Master, who made invaluable contributions to the cause of down-trodden masses of the country.
They were speaking at a discussion-cum-memorial meeting, publication ceremony of a souvenir and a milad mahfil held at Tongi Press Club in observance of the 11th death anniversary of the country's renowned labour leader, who was also an educationalist and later elected a lawmaker from Gazipur.
Ahsan Ullah Master was gunned down in broad daylight by some identified miscreants while addressing a workers' rally in Gazipur township in 2004.
Gazipur Union of Journalists (GUJ) and Ahsan Ullah Master MP Smrity Parishad jointly organized the function that was presided over by Parishad's President and Supreme Court Advocate Abdul Baten while Contributing Editor of The Daily Observer and former General Secretary of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) was the Chief Guest.
Among others, Tongi Pilot School and Girls College Principal Mohammad Alauddin Mia, teachers' representative Alauddin Ahmed, GUJ President and Smrity Parishad General Secretary Ataur Rahman, GUJ General Secretary MA Kashem Rana, Tongi Press Club President Shahjahan Siraz Saju, Freedom Fighter Ajhaj Sheikh Mohammad Shahidullah, journalists' leaders Mahfuzur Rahman, Nurul Islam, Hedayetullah, labour leader Mujibur Rahman, AL leader Mustafa Humayun Himu, local Chhatra League leaders Zahidul Kabir Anwar, Mehdi Hasan Kanan and women activist Tamanna spoke on the occasion.
