The unofficial results of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) polls show Abdul Matlub Ahmed-led Unnayan Parishad panel secured 12 posts, while Monowara Hakim Ali-led Swadhinata Babsayee Parishad panel bagged 4 posts in Chamber Groups election, sources said.
Meanwhile, ballot counting was going on for the Association Groups polls till filing of this report at 12:50am early Sunday.
Earlier, voting to elect the Board of Directors of Bangladesh's apex business platform Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for the 2015-17 term was held on Saturday.
The voting started at Motijheel's Federation Bhaban at 9am and closed at 5pm.
According to the election board, 418 votes were cast out of 436 votes for the Chamber group and 1, 532 votes were cast out of 1768 votes for the Association body. The number of total voters was 2,204.
Voters of FBCCI cast their ballots enthusiastically. MP Ali Ashraf was the Election Commissioner for the FBCCI polls.
The results may be announced late Saturday night, Ali Ashraf said. Earlier, police resorted to mild baton charge to disperse slogan chanting supporters of candidates in front of the FBCCI building around 10am. Three panels contested for the FBCCI Board of Directors.
First Vice-President Monowara Hakim Ali is leading the 'Swadhinata Babsayee Parishad' panel. Nitol Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad is heading the 'Babsayee Unnayan Parishad' panel.
Syed Moazzem Hossain is the leader of other panel, 'Babsayee Oikya Parishad'. Thirty two candidates vied for the 16 seats of directors in the Association Group while 33 candidates contested for same number of seats in the Chamber Group. Ten special chambers and 10 special associations will nominate two directors.
The elected and nominated directors will vote again to elect the President, first Vice-President and Vice-President.
In this term, the posts of president and vice-president will go to the Chamber Group while the Association Group will get the post of first vice-president.
However, the elected and nominated directors will choose the president, first vice-president and vice-president from among themselves for this term.
