Police on Thursday arrested six people from the capital's Badda area. The detainees have been identified as Md Alauddin, 35, Md Selim, 32, Md Jahangir Alam, 45, Md Emdad, 32, Nikul, 27, and a woman Masuma, 27.
Police said the detained have been involved in extortion identifying themselves as members of the law enforcing agencies.
SM Jahangir Alam Sarker, Acting Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), issued a press release in this regard.
According to him, the Detective Branch (DB) of police, led by Mahmuda Afroz Lucky, Senior Assistant Police Commissioner, tracked them down in a raid this morning.  During primary quizzing, the group confessed to their involvement in criminal acts like extortion under threat or cheat in the disguise of police personnel for a long time.
