Helaluddin, who was on bail in the case, filed a time petition mentioning sickness.
But, the court delivered the judgment considering him absconded and issued an arrest warrant against Helal.
According to the prosecution, the then Khilgaon thana OC Helaluddin detained Abdul Quader while returning to Fazlul Haque Hall at Dhaka University from his aunty’s house on July 16, 2011.
Later, the OC severely tortured Quader and forced him to give a confessional statement in a case. At one stage, Helal smacked him with a machete and stick, leaving the DU student critically injured.
Following instruction by the High Court, Abdul Quader filed a case against OC Helal on January 23, 2012.
