That was late night, Ante Meridiem (AM) 2 on March 2, 2015. I was coding programme of an application. I got a notification on Facebook home. The Microsoft uploaded a video tagging nine people across the world including me.
Initially I could not believe myself. Then I clicked to play the video. The nominated names were being display on screen. The petals of my eyes sparked with the name on fifth. Yes! Rezwanur Rahman, Bangladesh. I played the video for three times instantly to be sure. We were two youth advocates who got a chance to fly to Washington and attend the global summit of Microsoft titled 'We Day'.
When I took my chalk in literacy of technology, the words, Microsoft, Google were very buzzing with my steps. There developed a love for the words in my mind. I became very curious about the innovations of those tech giants. I had a long cherished dream to do something innovative like them.
In 2013 I got admitted in the American International University Bangladesh (AIUB) and connected myself with a student forum called Microsoft Student Partner (MSP). Then I was inspired to make mobile and desktop applications and made a good relationship with MSP's around the world and Microsoft employees.
In September last year, I started working with Microsoft as Microsoft YouthSpark Advocate. YouthSpark Advocates are young leaders who have been selected to represent YouthSpark through online and offline activities.
According Microsoft, YouthSpark Advocates are young leaders who have been selected to represent YouthSpark through online and offline activities. Advocates become subject matter experts in Microsoft YouthSpark and demo the tools and resources available on the YouthSpark Hub to other students on their high school and college campuses. They also spread the word about YouthSpark programmes, opportunities, and success stories via the hashtag #YouthSpark on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
On December, 2014 I seated for 9 Microsoft Certification Exams and gained Microsoft Technology Associate, Microsoft Certified Solution Associate, Microsoft Certified Professional and Microsoft Specialist Certificate in different categories.
The name was enlisted first in the Youth Spark official list on September 2, 2014. Then I started my task with YS by social sharing. My name was placed as All-time advocate for Youth spark programme within three months. There developed a Rock star discussing group with 21 all-time youth advocates from across the globe where we have been discussing about innovations. The group activities are going well.
Microsoft invited nine of us from social media group to attend the annual conference of Microsoft in Seattle. Microsoft mentioned that they would bear all expenses related to Seattle tour. Microsoft Bangladesh office, specially Country Manager Sonia Bashir Kabir and tech Evangelist Tanzim Sakib supported me at square.
After completing all necessary preparations I seated for a flight to Dubai on April 20. Dubai was the connecting place of seven advocates out of the total nine in our group from different countries. We reached Dubai after a five-hour plane journey and got a transit of eight hours. A new experience of exploring Dubai city without visa was added to my experience. We passed a night in Dubai.
On April 21 morning, we, seven advocates, started for the dream land of Seattle. We reached Seattle on April 21 afternoon according USA Standard Time after 14 hours of flying. A special car from Microsoft picked us to Hotel. The Hotel is just opposite to the Space Needle, prod of Seattle. We passed the remaining time of April 21 moving around and sleeping. The golden moment came on April 22. We were much enthusiastic to visit the MS HQ.
After a half an hour road drive from the hotel we reached the MS HQ. The car stopped in front of building no 32 of MS HQ. Microsoft Youth Spark Programme Manager Dina Mam welcomed us and we walked together to the building 33. Microsoft Conference and Future Experience rooms were there. The Future Experience room is just before of Skype room. We entered the FER without any device.
We were in room of dream. All the elements of the room were victuals. We got opportunities to get magical touch of technology there. Then we went for shopping at Microsoft Visitor Centre where MS took all expenses of shopping. After completing launch, we prepared to meet with the Microsoft University Recruit Team.
We reached the university building around 5 o'clock. The team members were waiting for us with the attractive gift hamper. The team discussed with us on different issues related to resume and recruitment of Microsoft. There was a giant wall where the visitors write the name of their countries and institutes on the shade of Microsoft logo. I did not find the name of Bangladesh there. Then I wrote Bangladesh including my name.
The next step was in MS Store where the orientation programme held on the We Day, the main focusing point of my visit. Some 79 Youth Spark Advocates attended there. We came back to the Hotel at midnight.
On April 23, the most awaited We Day programme held at Key Arena of MS HQ. That is just adjacent to Space Needle. We wake up early in the morning and got ready to attend the Key Arena programme. Thousands of young Americans welcomed us from road side.
Every participant got a Windows Phone and a power bank to contribute to social media. The official programme of We Day started on 9 AM according US standard time.
The whole auditorium was hose filled with the foot prints of youths those who have made deference at early age with innovations and contribution with the touch of technology. The day long programme passed with the shouts and expressions sharing of innovative youths across the globe.
Some of the participants returned home on April 24 while some others visited around Seattle for next couple of days. I visited New York, Manhattan. I was enthralled to see my dreams come true. I could feel the scenes of Hollywood movies first hand; the Statue of Liberty was before my eyes in NY!
Then the time was come to get back to home, my sweet home, in Bangladesh. I returned to Bangladesh on April 30 after the blissful completion the ever dreamt visit.
