Chief Justice SK Sinha on Saturday called upon the fresh lawyers to be good lawyers first, instead of chasing money at the cost of their professional lives.
“Never chase money. Don’t prioritise money. If you’re good lawyers first, the money will automatically chase you,” he said while
addressing as the chief guest at a programme in the city.
Bangladesh Bar Council organised the programme of certificate distribution among fresh lawyers enrolled in the Bar Council at the
Officers’ Club Dhaka.
The Chief Justice said, “You cannot be good lawyers, if you run like car for money. Money will follow you, if you make yourselves good people first.”
SK Sinha emphasized that novices should spend enough time in thinking alongside improving reading habit. “If you read a sentence, think 10-15 minutes and even 30 minutes if necessary,” he added.
He also suggested the new lawyers to acquire the art of how to present a complex point in easy and smart ways before the court.
The Chief Justice distributed certificates among 2720 fresh lawyers enrolled in the Bar Council.
Delivering the welcome speech, Bar Council Vice-Chairman Khandaker Mahbub Hossain said a separate secretariat is essential for
conducting the judiciary fairly. But the demand for separate secretariat still remains unfulfilled.
Noting that there is scarcity in manpower and infrastructure of the judiciary, he assured that the lawyers would support it if the Chief
Justice took steps for meeting the demands of the judiciary.
Bar Council Enrolment Committee Chairman and Appellate Division Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain presided over the function.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam, Bar Council Executive Committee Chairman AJ Mohammad Ali and the enrolment committee member Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon also spoke on the occasion.
Besides, Bar Council Enrolment Committee member and High Court Division Justice Md Nuruzzaman, Bar Council member Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru, Bar Council Finance Committee chairman Sanaullah Miah, Legal Education Committee Chairman Golam Mostafa Khan, Bar Council Secretary judge Altaf Hossain, among others, were present.
