Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said directives have been given to keep the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport alongside the airports in Chittagong, Sylhet, Syedpur and Air Strip in Lalmonirhat for handling the international relief materials coming for the Nepalese quake victims.
She said her government has already talked to India so that the relief materials could go to Nepal through the Banglabandha Land Port using Indian territories.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing the inaugural session of the International Conference on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Sustainable Development at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city. IDEB and CPSC, Manila jointly organised the three-day conference.
Sheikh Hasina said her government has already sent relief materials to friendly Nepal which had helped Bangladesh during its Liberation War, and steps are being taken to send more relief items.
A magnitude-7.8 earthquake hit Nepal on April 25, destroying buildings and devastating much of the city, and killing over 5,000 people.     ?UNB
