'Domestic service workers' deal with Riyadh okayed

Staff Correspondent The Cabinet on Monday approved the framework agreement between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia on domestic service workers and related standard employment contract. The approval was given in the regular Cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that the cabinet has given post-factor approval to the agreement and the employment contract form as the two instruments between the two countries have already been signed. Under the agreement, Saudi Arabia will recruit domestic service workers from Bangladesh. And the 'Standard Employment Contract' will protect the rights of the workers by guaranteeing for them the working atmosphere, salary and allowances and protection. Cabinet members, state ministers in charge of different ministries and secretaries concerned were present. The cabinet was informed of the visit of the Bangladesh delegation led by the Prime Minister to Indonesia to attend the Asia-Africa Summit on April 22-23 last.
