Afroza Abbas, wife of Mirza Abbas, BNP-backed mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections, urged people not to be confused by the government's propaganda as BNP will not boycott the city polls under any circumstances.
Afroza Abbas, who is campaigning for her fugitive husband, made the comments while talking to journalists in front of the Holy Family Hospital at Ramna in the capital on Thursday.
She continued her election campaign in Dhaka University (DU), Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and the adjacent areas. Pro-BNP teachers and former DU VC Prof AFM Yusuf Haider and former dean of the Faculty of Humanities, among others, were present in her campaign.
She sought vote for her husband from AAMS Arefin Siddique and Pro-VC (education) Nasrin Ahmed at their chamber offices on DU campus.
Replying to a query she said, "The Election Commission is playing with the deployment of army in polling stations as it once said the army personnel will be deployed as a striking force. Now it said the force will be kept positioned in the barrack."
