Court Correspondent City's top terror Sanjidul Islam alias Imon was sentenced to17 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a tribunal on Tuesday in Dhaka for possessing illegal arms. Judge Masud Parvez of the Special Tribunal No 7 of Dhaka handed down the sentence after examining the records and witnesses. The case against him is that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recovered a foreign-made revolver with 33 bullets from the possession of Imon, also known as Sanjidul Hasan, on March 16 in 2008. Later, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Inspector Uttam Kumar Biswas filed a case with Mohammadpur Police Station under Arms Act. CID inspector Shaymol Chowdhury, the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted charge sheet to the court on April 5 in 2008 accusing Imon. The court framed formal charge against him on August 13 of the same year. The court examined 13 prosecution witnesses out of 16.
