Miscreants hurled brick chips at the motorcade carrying Khaleda Zia, during her campaign for Mirza Abbas, party-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) polls, at Arambagh in the capital on Tuesday.
BNP sources alleged, "Some activists of Chhatra League hurled bricks at the motorcade of the Chairperson of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Khaleda Zia from behind at about 8:00pm."
"When BNP supporters chased the BCL activists, they fled from the spot. Later, the motorcade returned to Gulshan via Naya Paltan," the sources added.
Earlier on Monday, the BNP chief's motorcade came under attack by some miscreants when she was campaigning for Tabith Awal, her party-backed mayoral candidate for the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls.
On Tuesday while addressing a street rally in front of the Twin Towers at Shantinagar in the capital Khaleda Zia alleged that the miscreants who shot at her motorcade at Karwan Bazar on Monday were trying to kill her.
The rally was arranged to woo voters in favour of Mirza Abbas, BNP-backed candidate for the DSCC election.
"With an aim to kill me, they fired shots at me when I was engaged in electioneering at Karwan Bazar yesterday," said the former premier at the rally.
The BNP chief alleged, "People's lives and properties are insecure as the incident of killings, abductions and disappearances has become a regular phenomenon."
The former premier claimed, "The goons of the ruling Awami League are involved in the incident of bank robbery at Ashulia. So, if you (city dwellers) want peace in Dhaka you have to cast your vote for Mirza Abbas."
"You have to elect the BNP-backed candidates to stop harassment of women in the city," she added.
She visited Malibagh, Khilgaon and Shahajanpur areas and sought votes for Mirza Abbas.
She, however, continued her campaign for her party-backed two candidates for the fourth day on Tuesday.
BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman and Mahila Dal, the BNP's women front organisation, General Secretary Shirin Sultana were with Khaleda Zia.
