
Meanwhile, a robber was beaten to death by angry mob while trying to flee the scene.
Eleven people were also injured as the robbers opened fire on angry people who came for the rescue of the bank attack victims.
Of the dead, five bodies have been kept at Enam Medical College Hospital morgue, said hospital manager Yousuf Ali.
Five of the dead have been identified as bank manager Md Waliullah, 45, client Palash, 48, security guard Badrul Islam, 38, shopkeeper Zillur Rahman, 40, and grocer Monir Hossain, 55.
However, the identity of the dead robber could not be known immediately.
Bank officials and witnesses said an armed gang of 12/15 miscreants entered the bank and kept the manager and other officials hostage at gun point at about 2:30pm.

Sensing the killings and looting inside the bank, someone sought help through microphone of a local mosque.
Responding to the call, local people rushed in and gheraoed the dacoits. In a bid to flee the scene, robbers started firing at the agitated people, leaving Monir, polash and Zillur dead on the spot.
Angered by the sudden attack, local people chased the robbers and caught one of them. They beat the thug black and blue, killing him on the spot.
Meanwhile, police started hunt at different points on Bishmile-Zirabo road setting up check-posts.
