A lawyer on Monday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking an order on the government to arrest the assaulters on women in Dhaka University area during the Pahela Baisakh celebration by 24 hours.
The petition also sought judicial inquiry into the incident.
Advocate Dr Younus Ali Akond, the petitioner, also urged the court to give order the government to form a special tribunal to punish the culprits.
Six persons including Law Secretary, Home Secretary and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) have been made respondents of the writ petition.
A HC bench may take the petition for hearing on Tuesday, Eunus told reporters.
On April 14, during the celebrations of Bangla New Year at Dhaka University, a rowdy group molested a good number of women.
The incident sparked a wave of outrage from all quarters and protests have been waging at Dhaka University demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
