The High Court on Thursday issued a rule and wanted to know why steps would not be taken against those who sexually assaulted women  on the Dhaka University campus during celebration of Pahela Baishakh on Tuesday.

The court asked Inspector General of Police and Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University to submit reports within a month.

Considering reports of sexual assaults on women in different newspapers, Justice Kazi Rejaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman out of their own initiative issued the rule.

The HC in its rule also wanted to know why punishment would not be given to those who showed negligence in duty and failed to provide security during the Pahela Baishakh celebrations.

The home secretary, DMP police  commissioner, Ramna zone DC of police and OC of Shahbagh thana have to reply within four weeks.

During celebration of Pahela Baishakh on Tuesday, a number of women were sexually assaulted by some unidentified youths near Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) on the Dhaka University campus. Although law enforcers were staying nearby, they did not allegedly move to rescue the victims.
