Ganajagaran Mancha celebrated Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year, on Tuesday at Sherpur's Sohagpur, also known as the Village of Widows (Bidhoba Palli) following killings of 120 people in 1971 there by hanged Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman and his allies.
Around one hundred Mancha activists reached Sohagpur in the afternoon and paid tributes to the martyrs. Spokesperson Dr Imran H Sarkar led the team along with other senior leaders.
They exchanged greetings with the women who were widowed by the killers during 1971 Liberation War. They also carried gifts for them and had lunch with them with Pahela Baishakh delicacy - fried Hilsha fish and panta bhat (soaked rice).
