ACC files cases against Sohel Rana’s parents

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday filed two separate cases against Abdul Khaleque and Marjina Begum, parents of the collapsed Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana, for possessing illegal wealth of Tk 17 crore.

ACC deputy director and investigation officer (IO) Mahbubul Alam filed the cases with Ramna Model Police Station.
ACC deputy director (public relations) Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya  confirmed the media about the matter.

On April 5, The IO placed two reports in the ACC seeking its approval for filing the case against them. On April 9, the commission gave approval to file cases.

During investigation, the graft watchdog got evidence of Tk 10.24 crore having been illegally possessed by Rana father and Tk 6.67 crore by his mother. They concealed the information in their wealth statement.

On April 24, 2013, over 1,129 people were killed and scores injured when multi-storied building ‘Rana Plaza’ collapsed in Savar.
 
The ACC filed a case on June 15, 2014 against 17 people  including Rana’s parents and engineer. But, Rana was dropped from the case.
