Jamaat calls hartal for Tuesday, Wednesday

Jamaat-e-Islami has called a 48-hour hartal from Tuesday protesting the Supreme Court order that upheld the death penalty of its leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman rejecting his review plea.

Party’s acting chief Maqbul Ahmed announced the shutdown programme through a statement around 10:30am Monday after the top court rejected the review petition of party's Senior Assistant Secretary General Muhammad Kamaruzzaman.

Earlier in the morning, the appellate division of the Supreme Court (SC) upheld the death penalty of war crimes convict Muhammad Kamaruzzaman's for his crimes aganist humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

The hartal will begin around 6am on Tuesday.
