Five more floating bodies were recovered from the River Buriganga on Saturday, two days after a passenger trawler capsized following a collision with another sand-laden trawler near Fatullah in Narayanganj.
With these, the number of dead has risen to 16 since Thursday.
Of the five bodies which floated in the morning, two could be identified as Abdus Salam, 35, a resident of Shahid Nagar under Lalbagh and Habib, 12, a madrasa student and son of Abdul Aziz of the same area, said Momtaz Uddin, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.
A sand-laden trawler slammed the ill-fated trawler, which was returning to Dhaka from Lengtar Mela, an annual gathering at the shrine of a saint, at Beltoli in Chandpur, leaving eight passengers dead and many believed missing at around 12:45pm.
Bodies of Rubel, 18, Zakir, 28, Samiruddin, 50, Sagar, 11, Habib, 10, Rubel, 30, and Karamjan Bibi, 65, were identified on the day of the occurrence.
On Friday, three more bodies were recovered.
