80pc students drop out before HSC

Some 80 percent of students drop out before appearing for the Higher Secondary School Certificate examination every year.
According to available information, about 40 lakh children are born in Bangladesh every year. When comparing the total count of the applicants at HSC examination, the number is disappointingly only 8 lakh.
Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan disclosed the information of the current education  on Saturday  while addressing at the inauguration programme of an online education system initiated by the 'My Academy' held at The Daily Star Centre in the capital.
Khan said, "One of the most important challenges for the government is to retain students at school and college excepting some after mid day or at snacks breaks. We are trying to find out the problem and will take steps to solve the problem."
"I appreciated this innovative initiative and hope it will help our students, teacher moreover the community in inclusive education. We do not have enough Bangla chapters for lessons in online. The online initiative like My Academy can play vital role to promote more Bangla lessons in such online education system, " added the Education Secretary.
Bangla Academy Director General Professor Shamsuddin Khan, Dhaka University Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar, Daffodil University Professor Syed Akhter Hossain and Intel Country Business Manager Zia Manzur attended the programme as special guests.
My Academy Chairman Major (Retd) ATKM Iqbal presented the keynote speech with detail of the online education initiative.
The educational portal offers a study table for every individual to read write and study with fun. The audio video clips on different issue made the site more interesting to read and learn. Moreover, it has the opportunity for teachers and guardians to get update about the individuals study and others.
