Female pilot killed in Rajshahi aircraft crash

Rajshahi : A training aircraft crashed at Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi on Wednesday afternoon, leaving its female trainee pilot dead and trainer injured.

Shah Makhdum thana OC Mizanur Rahman said a training aircraft of Bangladesh Flying Club crashed onto the ground at about 2:30pm, killing one on the spot and injuring another.

“Realising the technical problem, the pilot tried to land, and shortly the plane caught fire,” manager of Shah Makhdum Airport, Setafur Rahman told the media.

The dead pilot was identified as Tamanna Ferdous.

The dead pilot was identified as Tamanna Ferdous, 22.

Injured trainer Lt Col (retd) Sayeed Kamal was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, and afterwords was shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Rajshahi. Doctors there said Sayeed suffered 60 percent burn injuries on his body.

Later, injured Sayeed was brought to Dhaka in a special aircraft and was admitted to the CMH.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) constituted a four-member body to probe the the incident, an official of CAAB told the media.

The official informed the committee members have already set out for Rajshahi.
