Acid attack victim dies after 3 days at DMCH

Narayanganj: A woman, who suffered burn injuries in an acid attack allegedly by her husband over family dispute in Fatullah area of Sadar upazila three days ago, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Thursday night.

The deceased was identified as Yasmin Begum, 32, wife of Polash, son of Ahammad Ullah of Bhuigarh area in Fatullah. The couple had three children

Victim’s family members said Yasmin’s husband Polash, accompanied by others, hurled acid at her through the window of the house of her father Gulzar Hossain at Bhuigarh around 1:30am on March 23, causing serious burn injuries in her face as well as in the rest of her body.

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and admitted in the burn unit. She succumbed to her injuries at the burn unit on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, Yasmin’s brother Shah Alam had already filed a case in this connection. Police also arrested five people, including Yasmin’s four in-laws after the filing of the case. A court had put the five arrested in a five-day remand following the arrest.

Fatullah Model Police Station inspector (investigation) Abdur Razzak said Polash has remained absconded since the incident and police is trying to the arrest him.
