Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has said the higher secondary exams (HSC) will begin on Apr 1 despite possible hindrances.
After the convocation programme of United University at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Tuesday, he told the reporters that the exams would be held on time braving all obstacles. "There is no alternative," he said.
The minister said he was under 'pressure from various quarters' to hold the exams on time regardless of the BNP-led alliance's ongoing agitation.
He has asked the students to prepare for the exam according to the routine.
"The law enforcement agencies are prepared to provide security to the students during the blockade and shutdown," he said.
Nahid has also sought the support of various social, cultural, political, and professional bodies.
Earlier, he had said that the HSC exams would be held according to schedule. The BNP-led 20-Party Alliance has been holding a non-stop transport blockade since Jan 5 and calling shutdowns on weekdays from February.
Considering the safety of the students, the SSC and equivalent exams or 368 exams in all had to be rescheduled to weekends.
As a result, exams set to finish on Mar 11 will now continue into the first week of April. Under the circumstances, the HSC and equivalent exams beginning from Apr 1 would end on Jun 11. ?bdnews24.com
