Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Thursday night seized $38,000 dollars from a staff of the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.  
Joint commissioner of Dhaka customs house Kazi Mohammad Zia Uddin said Sandipan Bhattacharya, 45, works as visa officer at Indian High Commission in Dhaka. He was carrying a school bag with dollars, the customs department said.
Zia Uddin told media that Sandipan along with his wife was to fly to Kolkata by an Indian Airlines. Dollars were seized as he did not carry necessary documents, he added.       
Sandipan's wife works at a private university in Bangladesh. He claimed that his wife earned the money from the university. Zia Uddin also said seized dollars would be released if necessary documents were produced.
