Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia has expressed positive attitude regarding her party's participation in the upcoming Dhaka and Chittagong city corporations election.
This was stated by Prof Emajuddin Ahmed after a sitting with the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office on Friday.
A Pro-BNP professional team headed by former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Emajuddin Ahmed met the Chairperson. Gano Shasta Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, Prof AFM Yusuf Haider and Senior Journalist Dr Mahfujullah, among others, were present at the meeting.
Prof Emajuddin Ahmed said, "BNP may participate in the city polls if congenial atmosphere for contesting the election prevails."
"But the decision will come after discussing the issue with party policy makers and top leaders of the 20-party alliance," he added.
The BNP, however, is yet to take final decision about its participation in the city corporation elections, the party insiders said.
Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee member Lt Gen (Retd) Mahbubur Rahman said, "BNP is yet to decide on the matter. We are discussing whether or not to go to the polls."
"The party will take a final decision and inform the media very soon," the BNP leader added.

On March 29 has been fixed as the last date for submission of nomination papers and one will be allowed to withdraw candidacy by April 9.
