Chittagong : Detectives in an overnight drive till 6am on Wednesday arrested 72 Islami Chhatra Shibir activists alongwith huge arms from Chittagong Government College Campus in the port city.
During the drive that continued from 1am to 6am Wednesday, the law enforcers seized one AK-22, one 303 rifle, three pistols, four single barrel guns, one two barrel gun, five rocket launchers, 61 cartridges and 27.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner of CMP SM Tanvir Arafat said the raid was conducted at Suhrawardy Hall of the college based on information of sabotage plan by Shibir men.
The students started fleeing after police raids in Sher-e-Bangla and Suhrawardy halls. But, 72 could not flee.
after raiding the dormitories, law enforcers entered the residential area for teachers and employess and recoevered the arms and ammunition in a sack from underneath the ground behind a staff quarter.
The detained Shibir activists were kept in Kotwal and Panchlaish police stations.
Later in the morning, the law enforcers conducted another raid at Government Hazi Muhammad Mohsin College.
