A Dhaka court on Monday granted the substitution petition of Sonali Bank which sought inclusion of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, her daughter-in-law and two granddaughters as defendants in the civil suit of Dandy Dyeing Limited for defaulting on a Tk45.49 crore loan.
Acting judge of Dhaka Artha Rin Adalat No- 1 (money loan court), Roksana Begum Happy passed the order in response to a petition of the plaintiff- Sonali Bank for replacing Khaleda's son Koko as he died on January 24.
The judge ordered inclusion of his mother Khaleda Zia, Sharmila Rahman Shithi, wife of Koko and his two minor daughters to contest the suit as the successors.
As result of court's order the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, Arafat Rahman Koko's wife Sharmila and their two daughters would face trial in the loan default suit. On March 8, the state-owned Sonali Bank filed a substitution petition for implicating BNP chief Khaleda Zia, Koko's wife Sharmila Rahman Sithi and daughters--Zahia Rahman and Zafia Rahman- in default of over Tk 455 million by Dandy Dyeing following death of her son Arafat Rahman Koko.
After hearing on the petition, the court fixed on Monday for delivery of order.
Sonali Bank on October 2, 2012 filed a money suit against 10 directors of Dandy Dyeing Ltd, including BNP Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman and his brother Koko, for defaulting on a loan amounting to Tk 45.49 crore As the company failed to pay the loan money, the principal amount plus interest amassed over the last 11 years has increased to Tk 45.49 crore.
The nine other defendants are - Tarique Rahman , Giasuddin Al-Mamun and his wife Shahina Yasmin, Nasrin Iskander, wife of late Sayeed Iskander, Shams Iskander, Shafin Iskander, Sumaiya Iskander, Mozaffar Ahmed and Kazi Galib Abdus Sattar.
Sonali Bank Senior Executive Officer Nazrul Islam filed the case with the Money Loan Court on October 2, 2012, mentioning them as defendants. Advocate Hosne Ara Begum and Advocate Jahangir Alam moved petition for plaintiff- Sonali Bank.
Arafat Rahman Koko, who died on Jan 24 in Malaysia, was a director of Dandy Dyeing.
