Bangabandhu was born on March 17, 1920 at Tungipara in Gopalganj. The day is observed as the National Children’s Day.
The Awami League and its associate organisations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
National dailies will publish special supplements while the Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and other private TV channels and radio stations will air special programmes highlighting the significance of the day.
Besides, special prayers will be offered at mosques and all the places of worships across the country on the occasion.
The ruling Awami League will hoist the national and party flags and place wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the morning.
Later, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Tungipara to pay homage to Bangabandhu.
Bangabandhu was assassinated, along with most of his family members, in a military coup on Aug 15 in 1975.
