Mongla building collapse: Death toll rises to 7

Bagerhat: Rescuers retrieved one more body and rescued seven more workers from the debris of the collapsed building in Mongla early Friday. Now, the death toll is seven.

Earlier, six bodies were recovered and 55 workers were rescued as the roof of a cement warehouse of Sena Kalyan Sangstha  building collapsed on Thursday afternoon.

Fire fighters, members of Border Gaurad Bangladesh and navy are still working there to rescue the trapped workers.

Among seven, three of the deceased were identified as--Amir Akunji and Maruf of Bagerhat, and Al Amin of Khulna.

The injured were admitted to the Mongla Port Authority Hospital, Rampal Upazila Health Complex, and Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Commissioner Abdus Samad of khulna division said, a nine-member probe committee has been formed in this connection. The committee has been asked to submit the probe report within seven working days.

Security guard of the building said more than 250 workers were working in the site during the collapse. Most of them are feared trapped under the rubble.

Deputy Commissioner of Bagerhat M Jahangir Alam said, the roof of the under-construction cement factory of ‘Sena Kalyan Sangstha’ collapsed around 1:30 pm on Thursday.
