The final round matches of the First Security Islami Bank National School Hockey is beginning today (Saturday) at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium.
A total of 32 teams divided into eight groups will play in the round and the champions of each group will qualify into the quarterfinals.
The final of the tournament is likely to take place on March 23 at the same venue.
Tournament secretary Mamunur Rashid in a press meet at the Bangladesh Olympic Association conference room on Friday said, "We found some players from the tournament this year who have exceptional qualities and we are planning to take care of them in BKSP so that we may get some hockey stars in future."
Mamun said, "About 330 players and 35 custodians will be selected for further training."
He announced that the champions will get taka three lakh, the runners-up will get taka two lakh while the third placers will get taka one lakh. Beside, the best custodian, striker, midfielder and defenders of the tournament will get taka 20 thousand each.
The hockey official was pleased with the quality of the players in the event while First Security Islami Bank's head of development and marketing, Azam Khan also hoped that the country is going to get some national hockey stars soon.
