A man was hacked and his wife injured seriously near TSC on Dhaka University Campus on Thursday night as unidentified assailants attacked the couple with sharp weapons. 

The victims are identified as writer Abhijit Roy, 38, and his blogger wife Rafida Ahmed Banna, 30, police said.

Police also said the incident took place around 9:30pm. The victims were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. 

Rafida said her husband Avijit is the son of Ajoy Roy, a professor of Dhaka University. Physicist Ajay Roy has taught at Dhaka University.

They were staying at a house of their relatives after they had come to Bangladesh from America a week ago.   

She also said they came under attack when they reached TSC after visiting book fair at Bangla Academy.

Abhijit, who works in the US and has been threatened before by fundamentalist blogger Farabi Shafiur Rahman, suffered a deep gash on his head.
