Crude bomb blasts mark hartal, blockade

At least five pedestrians were injured as pickets blasted several crude bombs in Bangabazar and Fakirerpool area in the city on Tuesday during the third day of hartal enforced by BNP-led alliance.
Four people came under the attack at Bangabazar around 9:30am while another at Fakirerpool at 8:00am. They were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for treatment, DMCH source said.
Meanwhile, stray incidents of violence were reported from different parts of the country on Tuesday, the 50th day of indefinite transport blockade. Blockade and hartal violence has already claimed the lives of 75 people. Some 300 victims of petrol bombs have suffered burns so far.
Police picked up at least 13 activists of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir, from different parts of Dhaka in 24 hours till 9:00am Tuesday over charges of subversive activities. Birulia Union Parishad Chairman Haji Mahmudul Hasan Alal, also BNP Savar thana unit president, was detained on Tuesday.
Our Bogra correspondent added that miscreants set a vegetable-laden truck ablaze by hurling a petrol bomb in Gokul area on the Bogra-Rangpur Highway on Monday night.
Witnesses said miscreants set off the petrol bomb targeting the truck at about 9:30 am. The driver and its helper jumped out of the moving truck as it caught fire.  On information, a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the flame.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident. Officer-in-charge Abul Bashar of Bogra Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident.
Our Lakshmipur correspondent added that Miscreants set fire to the district fisheries office in BISIC area in Lakshmipur in the early hours of Tuesday.
