A 72-hour hartal, called by the BNP led 20-party alliance, entered into second day on Monday demanding national election under non-party administration, restoration of democracy and release of its leaders and protesting the government's repressive acts.
The hartal began around 6am on Sunday and will continue till Wednesday 6am.
Presence of motorised vehicles is almost normal on the streets.
Additional police have been deployed at the key point of the capital.
On Friday, BNP Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed in a statement announced the shutdown programme.
