Bus helper succumbs to burn injuries

A bus helper on Sunday succumbed to his burn injures who was burnt in a petrol bomb attack in Dhaka on February 12, died at Dhaka Medical
College Hospital on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, police detained a person from city's Panthapath area in connection with hurling three cocktails there Sunday evening.
A worker was injured as miscreants blasted a cocktail in the city's Nawabpur area on Sunday night. The injured is identified as Badal. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader and his brother, who is a BNP leader, with four petrol bombs and five crude bombs at Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital on Sunday.
RAB said Nur Hossain, joint convenor of BCL Jinzira union, and his elder brother Kamal Hossain, vice president of BNP ward 4 of Jinzira union, were arrested around 12:30pm. Dhaka district BCL general secretary Monir Hossain admitted Nur Hossain's association with BCL.
The bus helper was identified as Bappi, 25, succumbed to his injuries at the Intensive Care Unit of Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of DMCH around 11:35am, said Partho Shankar Paul, resident surgeon of the Institute. Bappi suffered 70 percent burn injuries when pickets hurled petrol bomb at a bus in Banasree area on February 12, on the 39th day of the BNP-led 20-party alliance's nonstop blockade. The youth is the only breadwinner in his five-member family.
Meanwhile, Sunday was first day of fresh spell of 72-hour hartal forced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance while the nonstop transport blockade marked 48th days.
With this, the death toll has risen to 75 in the ongoing blockade and hartal since January 6. Most of the deceased were victims of mindless arson attacks. Some 300 were burnt in petrol bombs attacks so far.
Miscreants torched a pickup van and a private car in city's Malibagh and Rampura areas on Sunday night. No one was reportedly injured in the incident.
