The government has taken steps to announce the National Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Policy for Children to ensure their rights.
"The Ministry of Labour and Employment has already formulated a draft of the policy with the technical support of Save the Children. Bangladesh is going to be the first country of the world to have such a policy," said State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
The junior minister stated this while addressing a national seminar on the draft policy held at a hotel in the capital on Thursday.
The seminar was organised to share the draft policy with key stakeholders at the national level and get their feedback before making the final draft.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mujibul Haque said it would not be possible to eliminate child labour from the country overnight. The citizens will have to be aware of the issue and all the stakeholders will have to work together to end child labour.
He said the main objectives of the policy are to ensure 'overall welfare' of the children, encourage corporate social responsibilities for a long-term and sustainable development, and facilitate implementation of CSR activities of similar standard both in formal and non-formal sectors. ?UNB
