Customs officials seized 55,200 cartons of foreign cigarettes worth about Tk 10 crore from a container which were imported with false declaration at Chittagong Port on Wednesday.

Tipped off, a team of customs officials seized the cigarettes imported from Singapore, assistant commissioner of customs Pervez Zamansaid said.

SK Traders of Dhaka imported the cigarettes declaring those as cosmetics to evade tax, he said.

Legal action will be taken against SK Traders and its Chittagong agent Sohel Traders, he added.

However, no one was arrested in this connection.
