BARISAL, Feb 17: The 115th birth anniversary of Jibanananda Das, one of the most influential Bengali poets, was observed here on Tuesday in befitting manner. A three-day Jibanananda Festival was also inaugurated by District Commissioner M Gaus in the evening at Barisal Town Hall amid festivity. People from all walks of life and socio-cultural activists placed wreaths at the altar of the poet's portrait at Jibanananda Complex following a discussion on the life and works of the poet with poet Tapankar Chakrabarty in the chair. Poet Arup Talukder and Asma Chowdury also spoke in the memorial meeting. Jibanananda Das (1899-1954) is considered to be the most influential poet of Bangla language who could broke the Tagorian influence in literature and the undisputed pioneer of Modernism in sub-continental poetry practice.
