Shapna Khatun, a third year student of Jahangirnagar University's (JU) Geography and Environment Department, is now struggling for survival as liver inflammation has led to a chronic infection leaving her in coma.
She is in life support at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar.
Shapna, daughter of Sober Chawdhury and Monika Bibi of Doulia Para under Bonpara upazila of Natore district, has been suffering from liver inflammation for the last five days.
She is being treated under the supervision of Liver Specialist Prof Dr Rezaul Haque, who told this correspondent that Shapna's condition was deteriorating sharply and that she needed immediate treatment that would cost a total of Tk 8 lakh.
But her family is unable to manage the required sum of money and therefore seeks financial assistance from the solvent section of the society as well as the Prime Minister's relief fund.
