Jubo Dal man killed in Ctg 'crossfire'

Chittagong: An activist of Jubo Dal was killed and four others were injured by bullets during a 'gunfight' with police in Sitakunda upazila on Saturday night.

Police claimed, victim Md Arif, 17, son of Joynal Abedin, was a Shibir activist.

District Jubo Dal general secretary Solaiman Alam said, Arif was Jubo Dal activist. He was the secretary of ward no:1 of Baridhala union. 

Sitakunda Thana officer in-charge Iftekher Hasan said, a gunfight took place when some blockaders hurled a petrol bomb at a police patrol car at Nonachhara area around 9:30pm.

The blockaders opened fire on police while the law enforcers fired for self defence, leaving five Shibir men injured, Iftekher said.

Nayek Md Hamid of Chittagong Medical College Hospital police outpost, said bullet-hit Arif, Rubel, Sohel, Nurul Huda and Parvez were admitted to the hospital. Later, Arif died around 11pm.

Police also recovered a home made pistol, two petrol bombs and 10 cocktails from their possessions.
