Our Correspondent MUNSHIGANJ, Feb 13: A fisherman was killed as his co-workers beat and threw him in the Padma River at Bhagyakul village under Srinagar upazila of the district on Friday earlier. The deceased was identified as Shahjahan Sareng, 57, son of late Halim Sareng of the said village. Police arrested one Gopal Rajbongshi, 45, in this connection. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Srinagar police station Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman said Shahjahan Sareng went to the Padma River for catching fish with a chain net. At about 12:45am on Friday, other fishermen Rama Rajbongshi, Yunus Kha, Dulal Rajbongshi, Gopal Rajbongshi, Anil Rajbongshi, and Nira Malo of Bhagyakul village, Siraj Fakir of Charipara village, and Dila Malo of Balashur village beat Shahjahan and threw him into the river. Locals informed Shahjahan Sareng used to work in share at Rama Rajbonghsi's fishing boat. Now he was working at one Gopal's boat on the same condition. As Gopal's boat crossed the net of Rama Rajbongshi's boat, they swooped on Shahjahan and after beating threw him in the river. Later, he was rescued and admitted to Srinagar upazila health complex where he died at 3am on Friday. His body was sent to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Wife of the victim Jahanara Begum filed a murder case accusing eight with Srinagar police station.
