Ershad, also a special envoy to the Prime Minister, said, “I’d never seen such politics of killing women and children through hurling petrol bombs on buses in the name of blockade and hartal. Those carrying out barbaric acts would not be able to go to power.”
He said the destruction of the country’s economy for going to power should not be allowed to continue any longer. “It needs to be stopped.”
The former military ruler said the new generation would not forgive those called blockade and hartal during the examination time.
Noting that the country’s people are fed-up with the activities of the two major political parties, the former dictator said they do not want them to see in power any longer. “They (people) want to see Jatiya Party in power again and we’re preparing for the next election,” he said.
Asked whether there is any possibility of declaring a state of emergency in the country, he replied in the negative, saying the situation has not reached that level yet.
District Jatiya Party president and former MP Mofazzal Hossain Master, city unit president Mostafizar Rahman and secretary SM Yasir were also present.
