Suspected criminal killed in Jessore 'crossfire'

Jessore: A suspected criminal was killed during a 'gunfight' with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the district town early Sunday.

Deceased Raju alias Bhaipo Raju, 25, was the son of Ajiker Rahman.

RAB-6 camp company commander Maj Ashraf Uddin said, they arrested Raju on Saturday night.

Acting on his statement, an elite force team alongwith Raju conducted a drive to recover arms at midnight. As the team reached at Kajipur rail crossing area, criminals opened fire at the RAB men, forcing them to fire back that triggered  a gunfight.

"Raju was caught in the line of fire, leaving him seriously injured," said an eye witness account of RAB.

Raju was rushed to General Hospital around 4am where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

A foreign revolver, a local shutter-gun, three bullets, Phensidyl syrup and Yaba tablets were seized from the spot.
