GAZIPUR, Feb 7: Asking the police to do whatever needed against those unleashing anarchy and killing people, Dhaka Range DIG Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman here on Saturday said he will take all responsibilities of their actions.
At an exchange-of-view meeting at Gazipur police line, DIG Mahfuzul Haque also said "Not only shall you fire at them but their family members too should be annihilated. I give you this order and the liability is mine."
 "Catch red-handed those killing people through subversive activities and destroying public property, and do what is needed to do. I'm giving you the order. I'll take all the responsibilities," he said.
He echoed earlier statements by a number of police officials including the inspector general to quell the violent demonstrations by the BNP-led 20-party alliance since early January demanding mid-term polls.
 "We're given arms and ammunition to protect lives and properties of people. If someone kills you (policemen), shall we chew lollypop?"
Alleging that the anti-liberation forces are trying to wage a civil war in the country and destroy the country's independence, he said, "We together with people will launch a war against these kulangars (black sheep), munafeq (betrayers) and kafer (atheists). People must be saved from their clutches."
He added that the police could not allow certain quarters backed by foreign masters to destroy the country attained through a bloody war.
District Awami League general secretary Advocate Ajmat Ullah Khan and former MP Kazi Mozammel Haque, among others, spoke at the meeting held with Gazipur police super Mohammad Harunur Rashid in the chair.    ?Agencies
