The 18th death anniversary of Dr AR Mallick, an eminent educationist and the first technocrat Finance Minister of the country, will be observed today.
Dr Mallick was Professor of South Asian Regional Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, USA, in the early '60s, and the founding VC of Chittagong University, from where he mounted up resistance against the Pakistani occupation forces during the War of Liberation.
As President of the Liberation Council of Intelligentsia in 1971, he visited more than 35 universities in the US and UK to drum up public opinion for Bangladesh.
