Three suspected robbers sustained bullet wounds in a shootout with police at Madhya Badda in the city on Tuesday afternoon.
The injured were Md Shakil, 25, son of Kalu Mia, Piar Hossain, 27, son of Nayon Khan, and a private car driver Md Shahidul, 32, son of Abdul Wahab.
Shakil and Nayon were the residents of Fatehpur Keraniganj and Shahidul of Kanchanpur, Jahangiinagar under Bashail Upazila of Tangail district.
Acting on a tiff off that a gang of criminals were committing robbery in a house of one Firoz Kabir at House No-4, Road No-6 at Gudaraghat, Madhya Badda area, police rushed to the scene around 12:15pm , Sub-Inspector (SI) Rahmat Ali of Badda Police Station said.
Sensing danger, the criminals fired gunshots at policemen forcing them to fire back that triggered a brief gunfight, he said, adding that three of the hoodlums sustained bullet injuries on their legs and the remaining others managed to flee the scene.
Police recovered 3000 US dollar, Tk 2.5 lakh, 10 tolas of gold, two cameras, two mobile phone sets, a private car used in the robbery, some parts of two crude bombs, three knives, two chapatti, two bullets shell and one magazine from the spot, he also said.
Officer-in-charge (investigation) Kamrul Faruk, constables Abul Kalam Azad and Jahangir Alam of Baddar Police Station suffered minor injuries and took first aid at Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital, he added. Filing of two separate cases to this end is under way. ?BSS
