A police sub-inspector (SI) has been withdrawn for allegedly beating up a journalist in Dhaka.
Ramna police chief Mashiur Rahman said Kakrail outpost SI Mohammad Mostofa had been packed off to the police lines on Monday.
"Steps will be taken against him after investigation," he said. Nazmul Huda Sumon, Dhaka University Correspondent of English daily New Age, was on his bike at the Bijoynagar intersection on Sunday night, when he was assaulted.
A police officer on duty allegedly manhandled Sumon and his friend, also a student of the university, following an altercation over pillion riding. The injured were being treated at the university's medical centre.
OC Mashiur said Sumon tried to take a photo of two policemen riding on one bike when the police on duty there forced his friend to get off.
Mashiur claimed the journalist engaged in fisticuff with the police official.    ?bdnews24.com
