The Election Commission on Monday announced that by-elections in 80 Union Parishad would be held on March 19.

By-elections would be held to fill up 81 vacant posts of chairman, members and reserved members. The EC asked the district election officers to take necessary steps in this regard.

EC assistant secretary Mohammad Ashfaqur Rahman gave directives to hold votes as per the latest updated voter list on January 31.

According to the directives, out of 80 union parishads, elections for chairmen would be held in 11 unions, general members in 59 unions and members in 10 unions. 

Elections for the post of chairmen would be held in Chaudala of Gomstapur in Chapainwabganj, Purnimagati of Ullapara in Sirajganj, Italy of Shigra in Natore, Kazihal of Phulbari in Dinajpur,
Rangashri of Bakerganj in Barisal, Kachundi in Magura, Rangabali in patuakhali, Daogaon of Muktagacha in Mymensingh, Ujanchar of Banjarampur in B’baria, Jalam of Monoharganj in Comilla and Banglabazar of Doarabazar in Sunamganj.
